Spyridon Vikatos is one of the last representatives of the “Munich School” in Academic art. He studied art at the School of Fine Arts, under the guidance of Nikiforos Lytras and Spyridon Prosalendis, and he continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich along with Nikolaos Gizis, He rturned to Greece and taught in the School of Fine Arts from 1909 till 1940. His works carry influence of German academia, while certain critics attribute to it elements of the Flemish School of the late 17th century.

Ο Σπυρίδων Βικάτος είναι ένας από τους τελευταίους εκπροσώπους της «Σχολής του Μονάχου», μαθητής του Νικηφόρου Λύτρα και του Σπυρίδωνα Προσαλέντη, συμφοιτητής του Νικολάου Γύζη στην Γερμανία, και διδάκτωρ στην Ανωτάτη Σχολή Καλών Τεχνών της Αθήνας από το 1909 έως το 1940. Στα έργα του φανερή είναι η επιρροή του γερμανικού ακαδημαϊσμού, ενώ άλλη μελετητές του έργου του διακρίνουν στοιχεια της Φλαμανδικής Σχολής του 17ου αιώνα.
